The last South West Lean Forum supported event before the summer was held in the Rochestown Park Hotel on 4th July.   We were given the unique opportunity to hear a talk on “Easier, Better, Faster, and Fun – Applied to Lean Construction by Felipe Engineer-Manriquez, McCarthy Building Companies, USA.  Felipe gave a great summary of how Scrum techniques can be adapted and used in Lean.  A strong turnout were able to use the opportunity to quiz Felipe on his application of the techniques.

Following his talk Maria Ryan gave a really well worked introduction workshop to Villego® Last Planner.  Maria and here team demonstrated the power of planning and interaction before “jumping” in to do work.  While both sections of the event are more focused on the Construction Industry the parallel learning for those outside that sector in attendance was obvious.  Good planning and real communication are paramount to success.  The trick is to ensure that the communication is at the right level and we always strive to reduce or eliminate that 8th waste, which we like to term Knowledge Disconnection and not just under utilised talent.

Stockil Continuous Improvement and CAMMS, CIT were delighted to support the event.  The Forum’s next event is taking place in DPS Group (Cork Operations) on Thursday September 19th 2019.  Registration and Networking is from 16.30 to 17.00 and the event commences at 17.0.  The title is; Productivity Improvement in the Construction Sector: DPS Group (Cork Operations) present how the application of Lean Thinking, Tools and Processes, allied to Lean Organisational Leadership, is transforming the Group’s competitiveness and pursuit of excellence in the marketplace.
